SEOUL, 28 August, 2026 (Kamran Raja): South Korea has expressed support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to resume dialogue with North Korea, saying Seoul is ready to actively support confidence-building measures and efforts to restart talks between Washington and Pyongyang. South Korea’s National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said Friday that Seoul welcomed moves toward renewed engagement between the United States and North Korea. He said South Korea would work to facilitate measures aimed at rebuilding trust and creating conditions for meaningful negotiations between the two sides. Wi stressed that any resumption of U.S.-North Korea talks should focus on achieving substantive progress on the issue of North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. He also emphasized that diplomatic efforts must not undermine South Korea’s military preparedness or weaken the country’s security posture.South Korea’s position reflects its efforts to balance diplomatic engagement with continued vigilance over North Korea’s nuclear and missile capabilities. Seoul said it would support dialogue while ensuring that national and regional security remain protected throughout the process.
