Karachi, 05 August , 2026(Nosheen): The Government of Sindh has restored Saturday as a weekly holiday for all public and private educational institutions across the province, bringing back a five-day academic week effective immediately. According to the Sindh Education Department, all schools will now observe Saturday and Sunday as weekly holidays, with academic activities taking place from Monday to Friday
To ensure the timely completion of the academic curriculum despite the reduced number of working days, the department has decided to extend daily teaching hours by one hour. Officials said the revised schedule aims to maintain educational standards while providing students and teachers with a two-day weekend. A spokesperson for the Sindh Education Department confirmed that the revised policy applies to all public and private educational institutions throughout the province.
The latest decision reverses the provincial government’s earlier notification issued last month, which had directed all schools to operate on a six-day working week (Monday to Saturday) from August 1, 2026, until further orders. Schools had resumed classes after the annual summer vacation, which lasted from June 1 to July 31, 2026. Following a review of the academic schedule, the provincial government has now reinstated the two-day weekend while compensating for lost instructional time through longer school hours. The Education Department stated that the revised timetable is intended to balance effective curriculum delivery with the well-being of students and teachers.
