Washington, D.C. 25 July 2025(Kamran Raja): Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a productive meeting with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to discuss a range of critical issues impacting U.S.-Pakistan relations.
Secretary Rubio expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s continued commitment to regional stability and its constructive role in facilitating dialogues with Iran. He emphasized the importance of Pakistan’s efforts in maintaining peace in the region, underlining the significance of ongoing cooperation to address regional and global challenges.
The discussion also focused on deepening bilateral counterterrorism cooperation. Both leaders reiterated their shared determination to combat terrorist groups, specifically ISIS-K, and agreed on the necessity of increased collaboration in counterterrorism initiatives. Secretary Rubio highlighted the upcoming U.S.-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue, scheduled for August in Islamabad, as an essential opportunity to strengthen these efforts.
In addition to security issues, the two officials explored opportunities to expand bilateral trade relations. Secretary Rubio underscored the importance of advancing mutually beneficial economic ties, particularly in the critical minerals and mining sectors, which are vital to both nations’ economic growth and stability.
