ISLAMABAD, 27 September, 2026 (Ghufran): National coordinators of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will meet in Islamabad from September 28 to 30 to discuss the organisation’s programme of activities and other matters during Pakistan’s chairmanship, the Foreign Office said. The meeting will be the first session of the SCO Council of National Coordinators (CNC) under Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) for 2026-27. Pakistan’s national coordinator for the SCO will chair the meeting, which will be attended by national coordinators from other member states and representatives of the SCO Secretariat. The participants will discuss cooperation and coordination within the organisation, including activities planned under Pakistan’s chairmanship, preparations for upcoming SCO meetings and events, and other organisational matters. Pakistan has adopted the theme “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity” for its chairmanship, with a focus on strengthening regional connectivity, promoting innovation, expanding economic cooperation and enhancing people-to-people contacts. The three-day meeting will serve as an initial engagement under Pakistan’s chairmanship and contribute to preparations for several high-level SCO activities, including the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad in August 2027. Pakistan assumed the SCO CHS chairmanship for 2026-27 during the organisation’s annual summit in Kyrgyzstan in September. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has previously outlined an agenda covering information technology and artificial intelligence, energy, poverty reduction, disaster management, health, culture and sports. Meanwhile, preparations are also underway in Islamabad for next year’s SCO summit, including the planned upgradation of the Jinnah Convention Centre and efforts to expand internationally standard hotel accommodation in the capital.
