KYIV, 28 August, 2026 (News Desk): Russian forces on Friday resumed a heavy drone barrage over Ukraine’s Kyiv region, striking more than a dozen apartment buildings, warehouses and private homes for a second consecutive day, Ukrainian officials said. The attacks killed one person and wounded two others, while prolonged air raid alerts disrupted civilian life and economic activity in the capital. According to Kyiv regional military administration chief Tymur Tkachenko, the strikes damaged 14 warehouses, 16 private houses, three apartment buildings and 16 vehicles. Ukrainian emergency officials said a second drone struck one location after emergency crews arrived, in an apparent “double tap” attack targeting first responders. Authorities warned residents to remain in shelters, follow air raid alerts and keep windows closed in areas where air quality deteriorated. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its forces had overnight struck a warehouse in the Kyiv region storing Ukraine’s Flamingo cruise missiles and rocket fuel, although Ukrainian officials did not immediately confirm the claim and it could not be independently verified. Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 164 drones overnight, while Ukrainian officials said Russia was increasingly using fast-moving jet-powered drones in waves to exhaust air defenses and put pressure on the population.

The attacks also targeted Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. In the southern Kherson region, authorities warned residents of potentially prolonged electricity and heating disruptions this winter after intensified Russian attacks on energy facilities. Regional military administration chief Oleksandr Prokudin said 170 glide bombs had been dropped on Kherson since July 1, while Russia has also launched more than 1,700 attack drones in the past two months.Meanwhile, Russian strikes hit a postal facility in the northern Sumy region, where four glide bombs destroyed a Nova Poshta sorting center. A separate drone damaged one of the company’s depots in the Kyiv region. In Sumy, a Russian glide bomb attack killed a 61-year-old man and wounded seven others, according to regional authorities. Ukraine also continued attacks on Russian territory. The Ukrainian General Staff said its forces struck the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Russia’s Yaroslavl region, triggering a fire. The refinery, located about 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine, produces gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel and other petroleum products. Russian officials reported that a Ukrainian drone attack in the region killed one person and wounded 27 others, including 10 people injured when drone debris fell on a bus.Russian authorities also reported drone damage in the Moscow region and Crimea. A drone struck a supermarket in the Moscow region, while a five-story residential building in Sevastopol suffered significant damage, leaving four people wounded, according to Russian-installed authorities.
