ISLAMABAD, 25 August, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Renowned Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz was remembered on his 18th death anniversary on Tuesday, with literary circles paying tribute to his enduring contribution to Urdu literature. Born on January 12, 1931, in Kohat, Ahmed Faraz emerged as one of the most celebrated poets of the modern era. He began his professional career as a scriptwriter for Radio Pakistan Peshawar and later joined Peshawar University as a lecturer.His acclaimed literary works include Janaan Janaan, Tanha Tanha, Ghazal Bahana Karun and Shab-e-Khoon. He was also closely associated with the Progressive Writers Movement. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Urdu literature, Ahmed Faraz received prestigious national awards, including the Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz.Ahmed Faraz passed away in Islamabad on August 25, 2008, leaving behind a rich literary legacy. His poetry continues to resonate with readers and inspire generations of literary enthusiasts.
