Lahore, 17 Sep 2025(News Desk): The Punjab government has formally launched the province’s first-ever E-Taxi Scheme under its flagship Transport Vision 2030, marking a major step towards modernizing urban transport and promoting eco-friendly mobility solutions. In the first phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed among citizens. Interested applicants can submit their applications online through the official E-Taxi Punjab website until October 5, 2025. Officials said the initiative will significantly reduce air pollution and fuel costs, while providing citizens with a cost-effective and environmentally friendly transport option. The scheme will also strengthen the urban transport system across Punjab’s major cities and generate new employment opportunities.

Under the plan, the provincial government will provide a subsidized down payment facility and bear the interest costs for buyers. For vehicles priced between Rs. 4 million and Rs. 10 million, the Punjab government will contribute Rs. 585,000 towards the down payment, with the remaining amount financed by partner banks. In line with the government’s recent approval of an electric vehicle financing scheme, partner banks will offer loans of up to Rs. 665,000 to facilitate buyers. The Punjab government reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development and modern transport solutions, emphasizing that the E-Taxi Scheme is a milestone step towards a cleaner, greener, and more accessible Punjab.
