
Islamabad: April 6, 2026(Kamran Raja): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi in Islamabad today to review the overall performance of Pakistan Railways, ongoing reforms, and future development plans. During the meeting, the Minister for Railways briefed the Prime Minister on operational matters of Pakistan Railways. He informed that, in light of the prevailing situation in the Gulf region and to ensure public convenience, no increase in fares of all operational trains across the country is being implemented. The Prime Minister underscored that, given the current economic conditions, the government is committed to avoiding any additional financial burden on the public. He directed that efforts should be focused on improving the railway system to enhance revenue generation.
The Prime Minister further instructed that reform measures be accelerated to transform Pakistan Railways into a modern, safe, and reliable mode of transportation. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to public welfare, the Prime Minister stated that improving the performance of all institutions remains a key priority to put the country on a path of sustainable development. He also directed the Minister for Railways to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects and to utilize all available resources to provide better, safer, and affordable travel facilities to the public.
