Islamabad, 17 May 2025(Kamran Raja): The meeting was briefed on the development of Pakistan Railways, including the upgradation of ML-1 and ML-3, in view of future cargo and transportation needs. PM directs to connect Reko Diq to the railway line network by 2028. PM directs to form an inter-ministerial committee for the upgradation and financing of railways. The committee will present concrete proposals regarding the development of Pakistan Railways and the financing required for its extension to Reko Diq. Prime Minister said Pakistan Railways is the backbone of the country’s economy and communication. Pakistan Railways is a cheap, fast and environment-friendly means of transport.
Connecting Reko Diq to the railway network will develop Balochistan’s mines and minerals sector and create new employment opportunities for the people of the region. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, Minister of State for Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi and senior government officials.
