New York, 23 September, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina H.E. Dr. Denis Bećirović on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The two leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, including political, economic, defence, skilled labour mobility, education and cultural cooperation, and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s importance attached to its historically close and fraternal ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina and expressed the desire to transform these relations into a broad-based partnership focused on trade and economic cooperation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that regional stability depends on a strong, stable and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina. The prime minister congratulated Dr. Bećirović on the formal opening of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU accession talks and said Pakistan viewed the country as a potential regional trade and connectivity hub for Pakistani goods entering European and Western Balkan markets. Dr. Bećirović appreciated Pakistan’s role in facilitating de-escalation and normalization in West Asia and the Gulf region and supported Pakistan’s position regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact and work for further advancement of bilateral relations, including through exchanges of high-level visits between the two countries.
