Pakistan Tells UN India Backing Terrorism Through Afghan Proxies

New York, 8 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Pakistan has told the United Nations that India is providing material and logistical assistance to Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities to facilitate attacks against Pakistan. Muhammad Jawad Ajmal, Counsellor at Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN, made the remarks while exercising Islamabad’s right of reply to comments made by the Indian representative at the world body on October 7. Ajmal said Pakistan was aware of the challenges posed by what he described as Indian-sponsored terrorism and alleged that New Delhi was using Afghanistan as a base to support militant groups operating against Pakistan. He said India’s expanding engagement with the Taliban authorities was not merely aimed at providing humanitarian assistance, alleging that such support was also being used to facilitate attacks against Pakistan. The Pakistani diplomat alleged that India was backing groups including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) through proxies operating from Afghanistan. Ajmal said Pakistan had repeatedly drawn the international community’s attention to what it described as Indian efforts to create instability and discord in the region. He also accused India of human rights violations and alleged that New Delhi had mainstreamed Islamophobia and extremist ideologies while seeking to engineer demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

Pakistan disputes India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir and maintains that the territory is subject to international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The Pakistani diplomat also referred to the case of Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav, whom Pakistan says was a serving Indian naval officer involved in espionage, sabotage and terrorist activities on Pakistani territory. Ajmal described Jadhav’s capture as evidence of what he termed Indian state terrorism. He said Pakistan would take all necessary steps to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security and people. At the same time, he reiterated Islamabad’s stated commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful means and respecting international law and the UN Charter. Ajmal said Pakistan would defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, security and people while remaining committed to the peaceful settlement of disputes and adherence to international law and the UN Charter.
