
26 March 2026(kamran Raja): The Pakistan Men’s Under-20 team concluded their campaign in the SAFF Under-20 Championship following a 3-0 defeat against India in their final Group ‘B’ fixture.
Head coach Shahzad Anwar fielded a 4-1-4-1 formation aimed at strengthening midfield control and creating a numerical advantage across the pitch. However, an early setback came in the second minute due to a goalkeeping error, allowing Indian forward Vishal Yadav to open the scoring.
Despite the early goal, Pakistan’s young side demonstrated resilience and composure, gradually settling into the game and gaining momentum. The first half ended with India leading, but Pakistan showing promising signs with improved coordination and attacking intent.
Pakistan continued to press in the second half, effectively disrupting India’s rhythm and maintaining pressure. A key moment arose in the 63rd minute when Pakistan appealed for a handball inside the box, but the referee allowed play to continue. India capitalized on the resulting counterattack, with forward Omang Dodum doubling the lead after a fortunate rebound.
Undeterred, Pakistan pushed forward in search of a comeback, displaying determination and attacking spirit. However, a late penalty awarded to India in the 88th minute, converted by Omang Dodum, sealed the result at 3-0.
While the outcome marked the end of Pakistan’s journey in the tournament, the performance of the young squad offered several positives. The team exhibited discipline, fighting spirit, and a commitment to attacking football throughout the match.
Coach Shahzad Anwar expressed encouragement at the team’s development, noting that the experience gained at the international level will serve as a valuable foundation for future competitions.
