Islamabad, 27 October 2026 (Kamran Raja): Pakistan and China have officially launched the China-Pakistan Information Corridor to strengthen media cooperation, promote accurate information sharing and combat fake news and disinformation. The initiative was inaugurated at a high-level ceremony in Islamabad attended by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning, senior government officials, diplomats and media executives. The launch marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring countries and reflects their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic, economic and infrastructure sectors. The information corridor aims to establish a structured framework for information exchange, joint media initiatives and collaboration between media organisations in both countries. It will also promote the use of digital platforms and communication technologies to improve content verification, encourage responsible reporting and counter misleading narratives. Addressing the ceremony, Minister Attaullah Tarar described the information corridor as a digital bridge connecting the hearts and minds of the people of Pakistan and China. He highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two countries and described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a major pillar of their economic partnership, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He said the new initiative would provide a platform for truth-based reporting, cultural exchange and closer engagement between the two peoples.
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong congratulated both countries on the initiative, expressing confidence that enhanced media collaboration would deepen mutual understanding of their cultural traditions, development priorities and shared interests. He also emphasised the importance of joint efforts to counter misinformation and promote a balanced understanding of bilateral cooperation. Under the initiative, media organisations are expected to explore joint workshops, professional exchanges, collaborative content production and training in digital innovation, information verification and media management. Officials also highlighted the importance of coordinated coverage of economic projects and regional development. The initiative is expected to further strengthen Pakistan-China relations by expanding cooperation in digital communication and media engagement, while providing a framework for sustained information sharing and joint efforts to address disinformation.
