Next Round of Ukraine Talks Depends on Middle East Situation, Kremlin Aide Says

Islamabad, 29 October, 2026 (Ghufran): The timing of the next round of trilateral talks aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict will depend on the situation in the Middle East and other factors, Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said on Wednesday, casting doubt on whether the negotiations would take place next month as initially proposed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he hoped the meeting would be held in Abu Dhabi between November 6 and 10. However, Ushakov said Moscow had not proposed a specific date, adding that the situation on the battlefield and the broader regional developments, particularly the US-Israeli war on Iran, could prevent the talks from taking place in the near future. He also said there had been no discussion about including European negotiators in the next round, stressing that the current agreement involved trilateral consultations among representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the United States. The leaders of Britain, Germany and France had said that Europe would play a role in US-mediated negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskiy to secure a ceasefire. Ushakov had earlier indicated that Europe should be included in the discussions, given the importance of its position. He further said that the possible participation of European countries was not discussed during Putin’s phone conversations on Tuesday with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere.
