MOSCOW, 06 September, 2026 (Kamran Raja) – Russia has not ruled out the possibility of a trilateral meeting between the presidents of Russia, the United States and China, state news agency TASS reported on Sunday. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Moscow remains open to a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, Ryabkov stressed that Russia wants greater clarity on the agenda and expected outcome of such a meeting before beginning preparations. “The main question boils down to how the substance of the meeting will be formulated, and what we can expect as a result,” Ryabkov said, according to TASS. The possibility of a trilateral meeting was raised earlier this month by Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov. He suggested that Putin, Trump and Xi could potentially meet on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled to take place in Shenzhen, China, in November. Moscow’s latest comments indicate that while Russia has not rejected the idea, it wants the purpose and potential results of the meeting to be clearly defined before moving ahead with practical arrangements. A meeting involving the leaders of Russia, the United States and China could provide an opportunity to discuss major international and geopolitical issues and could draw significant global attention.
