Frankfurt, 17 September 2026 (Nosheen): Germany coach Jurgen Klopp has named a 44-man squad for his first training camp since taking charge of the national team this summer, handing 16 players their first international call-ups. Although teams are limited to 20 outfield players and three goalkeepers for each match, Klopp opted for an expanded squad as Germany prepare for four upcoming Nations League fixtures. The coach has divided the players into two groups, with the first squad set to feature against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on September 24 and Greece in Augsburg three days later. The second group will be available for Germany’s matches against Serbia in Munich on October 1 and Greece in Thessaloniki on October 4. Klopp said the unusual schedule of four matches in two weeks provided an opportunity to assess as many players as possible, adding that the two groups were selected to work well together rather than being treated as an A and B team. Klopp was appointed Germany coach in July after replacing Julian Nagelsmann, following Germany’s elimination at the last-32 stage of the 2026 World Cup. Leroy Sane, Deniz Undav, Leon Goretzka and goalkeeper Oliver Baumann have been left out, while veterans Manuel Neuer and Antonio Rudiger have retired from international football. Marc-Andre ter Stegen will be Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper for the time being. Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, the squad’s most-capped player with 114 appearances, will retain the captaincy and is expected to move from right-back to central midfield at international level. Among the 16 potential debutants are Eintracht Frankfurt’s Younes Ebnoutalib, Stuttgart defender Finn Jeltsch, Brentford midfielder Vitaly Janelt and Celtic midfielder Mika Baur. Klopp said several of the new players had shown significant potential and that the expanded squad was intended to support their development over the next two to three years.
