Iran Welcomes Tehran Security Talks as Step Toward Regional Dialogue and Peace

Islamabad, 28 October, 2026 (Nosheen): Iran has welcomed a meeting of high-level security officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey in Tehran as a step toward advancing regional dialogue and peace, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressing that regional countries should take responsibility for their own security without intervention by outside powers. In comments posted on social media, Araghchi said the meeting held on Monday provided an opportunity to promote dialogue, although he did not disclose further details of the discussions. The talks took place amid growing concerns over a possible return to full-scale conflict and continued attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen targeting Saudi Arabia. Iran has repeatedly attacked neighbouring Gulf Arab countries during the war that began on February 28, claiming it was targeting US facilities and interests, while Gulf states have accused Tehran of striking civilian facilities and infrastructure. Separately, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held telephone conversations with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss political solutions and efforts to contain escalating regional tensions, according to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry. Egypt has also pledged military support to Saudi Arabia to help defend the kingdom against attacks by Houthi rebels. The decision was approved by Egypt’s highest security body and subsequently endorsed by lawmakers in a closed-door vote earlier this week. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has emphasised that the military assistance would be strictly defensive in nature, as regional countries continue diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
