India Thrash Afghanistan to Clinch T20I Series

New Delhi, 15 September, 2026 (Ghufran): India defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets in the second T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday to clinch the T20I series, with Sanju Samson delivering a blistering batting performance. Chasing a target of 160 runs, India reached the required total inside 14 overs for the loss of just three wickets. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson gave the hosts a flying start, putting together an 88-run partnership during the first six overs. Sharma scored 39 off 19 deliveries, hitting four sixes and two fours, while Samson smashed four sixes and seven fours in a sensational 57 off just 22 balls. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma then completed the chase by adding an unbeaten 40-run partnership, securing another one-sided victory for India. Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan claimed all three Indian wickets. Earlier, Rashid’s late cameo helped Afghanistan post a competitive 159 for eight in their 20 overs. Afghanistan suffered an early setback when Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed for a duck after facing three deliveries, but captain Ibrahim Zadran and Sediqullah Atal steadied the innings with a half-century partnership. India’s bowlers then struck back with quick wickets, reducing Afghanistan to 59 for three at the halfway stage. Zadran top-scored with 37 off 33 balls, including six fours, while Atal made 12 off 15 deliveries. Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan later added 48 runs for the seventh wicket to provide Afghanistan with late momentum. Nabi scored 20 off 14 balls, while Rashid made 28 off 16, including three fours and a six. For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets.
