High level meeting regarding Pakistan International Airlines under the chairmanship of caretaker Prime Minister
The meeting was given a detailed briefing on various issues of PIA. Prime Minister expresses concern over delay in decision making on PIA issues. The country is suffering from economic problems and the deficit of national institutions is causing these problems to increase. Prime Minister said it is no longer possible to meet the deficit of these institutions from public taxes. The process of privatization of PIA and other loss-making government enterprises (SOEs) should be accelerated. With the reforms of the aviation sector, the people will be able to provide the best travel facilities. It is very important to determine those responsible for the loss so that steps can be taken to remedy it. Transparency of privatization process should be ensured.
A high-level meeting regarding PIA was held in Islamabad today under the chairmanship of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar. The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Privatization Fawad Hasan Fawad, Adviser to Prime Minister Ahad Khan Cheema and related senior officials. The meeting was informed about the financial situation of Pakistan International Airlines and the progress of privatization process. The meeting was informed that all obstacles in the privatization of PIA have been removed. The Prime Minister directed that the process of privatization of the national airline should be made transparent and faster so that the national exchequer is protected from further loss.
