Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik Visits OGDC; Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Energy Sector Reforms

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik held a meeting today with the Managing Director and senior executives of the Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) at the company’s head office.

The OGDC management gave a comprehensive briefing on the company’s operational activities and its strategic production optimization initiatives aimed at reducing the decline in mature hydrocarbon fields.

The Minister was apprised of various initiatives undertaken to enhance recovery and maintain production levels. He emphasized that “the indigenization of the energy sector is the way forward, and our Exploration & Production (E&P) companies are working diligently towards this national goal.”

Highlighting the link between performance and governance, Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik underscored that enhancing the operational and financial strength of OGDC and other E&P companies requires sustained reforms. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the petroleum sector and its vital contribution to Pakistan’s economy.

During the briefing, the Minister was informed that OGDC successfully achieved five new oil and gas discoveries during fiscal year 2024–25, underscoring the country’s vast hydrocarbon potential.

“I assure my complete and full support for the structural reforms necessary to ensure the sustainability of the petroleum sector,” said Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik. “The government will provide all possible facilitation to enable our E&P companies to operate at their maximum potential and attract the investment needed for growth.”

Managing Director OGDC, Mr. Ahmed Hayat Lak, welcomed the Minister’s support and said: “It is a welcome step that there is seriousness in reforming the sector. This commitment from the government provides a clear direction and will enable E&P companies like OGDC to play a more effective role in achieving national energy self-sufficiency.”

The meeting concluded with a mutual resolve to continue close collaboration between the Ministry of Petroleum and OGDC to overcome challenges and capitalize on opportunities in the energy sector.
