Islamabad, 30 September, 2026 (Ghufran): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said on Wednesday that the federal government was “seriously considering” imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid concerns over the province’s security situation. The federal government has also warned that it could impose governor’s rule or an emergency if the provincial leadership does not withdraw its plan for a march on Islamabad on October 4. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced the march as part of a nationwide protest seeking the release of its founder, Imran Khan. Speaking to the media at Parliament House, Chaudhry said the provincial government’s alleged lack of success in controlling terrorism was the reason the imposition of emergency under Article 232 was being discussed. He expressed confidence that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), an ally of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at the federal level, would cooperate if required. Separately, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said that if the federal government consulted the party over imposing governor’s rule in KP, the PPP would give its views in accordance with the Constitution and law. Bukhari described the law and order situation in the province as deeply concerning and said peaceful protest was a democratic right, while violence against the state in the name of politics was unacceptable. He called for the government to ensure the rule of law and take effective measures to maintain peace and security. Bukhari also said the PPP supported dialogue and believed national issues should be resolved through meaningful political engagement. Regarding an invitation from the Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) for a multiparty conference, he said the matter would be considered by the PPP Central Executive Committee, which would take the final decision.
