Cairo, 15 October 2026 (Ghufran): Egypt and Qatar have stressed the need to immediately halt all hostilities against Saudi Arabia, strongly condemned attacks on the kingdom and expressed solidarity with its people, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. The position was conveyed during a telephone conversation late Wednesday between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. According to an official statement, the two ministers also reviewed bilateral relations and areas of cooperation, including high-level visits, and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening ties between the two countries. Discussing regional developments, they emphasised the importance of supporting ongoing diplomatic efforts and coordinating actions to ease tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading. Both officials called for activating political and diplomatic channels to resolve the crisis and promote regional security and stability. The talks took place amid escalating military tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi group, with missile and drone attacks reportedly targeting airports and critical infrastructure in the kingdom in recent days.
According to the report, five Saudi airports have come under attack since October 5, leaving 20 people dead and hundreds injured, besides causing material damage and disruptions to air traffic. Meanwhile, Yemen’s military operation, known as Dawn of Yemen, has continued. Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi said the operation aims to restore state institutions from Houthi control and retake the capital, Sanaa. The latest developments are part of an escalation that began in July and has become the most extensive since a period of relative calm following a United Nations-brokered truce in April 2022. Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government against the Houthis since 2015, while the group has controlled Sanaa and several other provinces since 2014.
