
Islamabad, 14 April 2026(Kamran Raja): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Steering Committee overseeing fuel subsidy and austerity measures. The Petroleum Minister briefed the participants on the current fuel supply situation in relation to national consumption patterns. He also updated the committee on ongoing efforts to secure fuel supplies from alternative regions not affected by the ongoing conflict/war situation. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of implementing the Prime Minister’s austerity measures in true letter and spirit to ensure fiscal discipline and economic stability.
The meeting was also briefed on the progress of the fuel subsidy programme. The DPM/FM directed that subsidy payments be carefully tracked and prioritized to effectively reduce the financial burden on the common man. The meeting was attended by the Minister for IT and Telecom, Federal Secretaries of Petroleum, Information Technology and Telecom, and senior officials from relevant departments. Chief Secretaries from all four provinces, as well as Chief Secretaries of AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, also participated. Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, chaired the meeting.
