Decision Taken to Transform Islamabad Safe City into Capital Smart City; Interior Minister Reviews Progress

Islamabad: April 6, 2026(News Desk): Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi visited the Safe City Headquarters in Islamabad today, where he chaired a special high-level meeting to review progress on Phase-II of the Islamabad Safe City Project. During the meeting, it was decided that all ongoing work under Phase-II will be completed by May 30, 2026. The Interior Minister directed the concerned authorities to ensure the timely completion of the project within the stipulated deadline. Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that the Central Command and Control System in Islamabad will be upgraded as part of the initiative. He further stated that policing, traffic management, and civic services systems will be fully integrated to enhance operational efficiency.

The Interior Minister highlighted that under the Capital Smart City framework, a modern system for traffic management and crime control will be established. He reiterated that all available resources are being utilized to transform Islamabad into a safe and secure city. The meeting also approved the new design of the Safe City Headquarters.

Inspector General Islamabad Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, briefed the meeting in detail on the progress of the Safe City Project. It was informed that 75 percent of the work on Phase-II has already been completed. The briefing further noted that installation of modern cameras and advanced monitoring systems is underway to ensure citizens’ safety. Additionally, 152 kilometers of fiber optic cable has already been laid. It was informed that the remaining work under Phase-II will be completed by May 20, 2026, after which the testing phase will commence. The meeting was attended by Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Agha, Director General FIA Dr. Usman Anwar, IG Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi, DG Safe City Haroon Joiya, and other senior officials.
