Islamabad, 29 Jan 2025 (Kamran Raja): A Chinese company is investing $350 million to install 3,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Pakistan, marking a significant step towards promoting green energy and reducing dependence on fuel imports. This initiative, in partnership with the Government of Pakistan, aims to accelerate the country’s transition to electric transportation.

The project will initially focus on setting up charging stations along the Peshawar-Karachi motorway, with the goal of establishing a comprehensive EV charging network across the country. This investment is expected to not only boost Pakistan’s economy but also create new employment opportunities.

To further support the growth of the EV sector, the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) has proposed ambitious targets, including having 10% of all new four-wheelers and 25% of new two/three-wheelers be electric by 2030. These initiatives demonstrate Pakistan’s commitment to embracing sustainable energy solutions and reducing its carbon footprint.
