A roundtable discussion on "Pakistan-U.S. Relations in the Context of Regional and Global Developments" will be facilitated by ISSI and Ambassador Donald Blome.

H.E. Donald Blome, the US ambassador to Pakistan, spoke at a roundtable discussion on “Pakistan-US Relations in the Context of Regional and Global Developments” at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) organised by the Centre for Strategic Perspectives (CSP). Former ambassadors and diplomats, think tank leaders, scholars, professionals, and subject matter experts were among the other attendees.
DG ISSI Ambassador Sohail Mahmood discussed the dynamics of the partnership now while recalling its historical trends in his opening comments. He pointed out that external factors, including regional and international developments, have had a significant impact on the relationship between Pakistan and the United States.

As objectives have changed, the focus of bilateral cooperation has now moved from security to a wider variety of topics. Counterterrorism is still a priority, but commerce, investment, energy, IT, environment, education, culture, and interpersonal interactions are increasingly receiving more attention. This is consistent with Pakistan’s shift towards comprehensive human security and geoeconomics. In his closing remarks, he emphasised how critical it is to rekindle the partnership while maintaining a healthy sense of hope for the future.
In his remarks, Ambassador Blome emphasised how crucial it is to forge strong bonds in order to fortify the partnership even further. He emphasised that the foundation of relations between Pakistan and the United States is economic growth, with a renewed emphasis on laying the basis to strengthen relationships and work together effectively to generate increased peace, prosperity, and regional stability.

The situation in Afghanistan, peace, security, and strategic stability in South Asia, conflict in Europe and the Middle East, changes in the Asia-Pacific region, and maritime security were among the topics covered in the interactive conversation that followed the presentation. At the conclusion, the Keynote Speaker received a gift from the Institute from Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman of the Board of Governors, ISSI, and a group photo was taken.
