JUI-F chief met with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the Chief of JUI-F, congratulated the Afghan Taliban on their victory against the US and an international coalition. While claiming that his travel to Afghanistan is intended to strengthen connections and ease tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Maulana said that under the new Islamic regime, Afghanistan has grown more stable. Maulana went on to say that the JUI-F strongly disagreed with the Pakistani government’s decision to drive out unauthorised Afghan immigrants, claiming that this action had a negative impact on bilateral ties.
Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund, the prime minister of the Afghan Interim Government (AIG), said at the meeting that Afghanistan and Pakistan are dependent on one another and have many similarities. He went on to say that AIG does not wish to cause problems for any of its neighbours, including Pakistan. He agrees with Maulana, though, that the two nations’ ties have suffered greatly as a result of Pakistan’s choice to drive out illegal immigrants. He emphasised that the main focus for resolving disputes between the two nations should be on religious academics. Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of Afghanistan, emphasised the need of resolving other bilateral concerns as well, such as commercial and financial transactions, which he claimed shouldn’t be negatively impacted by political factors.
