PCB Releases Sufiyan Moqim from Tri-Series Squad, Adds Maaz Sadaqat as Cover

Lahore, 25 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan Moqim from the national men’s squad for the ongoing One-day International tri-series involving Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka, citing the nature of the pitches in Lahore, while including left-handed batter Maaz Sadaqat as cover for players carrying minor injuries. In a brief statement on Sunday, the PCB said Moqim had been released from the squad in view of the conditions at Lahore’s pitches and would return to domestic cricket. Maaz has been added as cover for players experiencing minor fitness concerns. The decision comes as the tri-series moves to Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore following the opening three matches in Rawalpindi. Pakistan have won both their league matches so far, defeating Sri Lanka by 37 runs and England by 87 runs, and are scheduled to face England again in Lahore on Sunday. The Rawalpindi pitches generally favoured fast bowlers, offering limited opportunities for specialist spinners. Moqim, who hails from Azad Kashmir, has represented Pakistan in limited-overs cricket since making his T20 International debut in 2023. He gained recognition for his record-equalling figures of five wickets for three runs against Zimbabwe in a T20I and was named Player of the Tournament in the 2026 Pakistan Super League while representing Peshawar Zalmi. He has taken eight wickets in four One-day Internationals. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Maaz has impressed with his aggressive batting. The Peshawar-born left-hander made an immediate impact on his ODI debut against Bangladesh earlier this year and recently scored consecutive half-centuries in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, including a blistering 96 off 51 balls that helped Pakistan register their highest-ever home T20I total. An occasional left-arm orthodox spinner, Maaz had initially been left out of the tri-series squad. The updated squad, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, now includes Maaz as Pakistan continue their campaign in Lahore, with the final scheduled to take place at Gaddafi Stadium on October 31.
