Lahore, 22 October, 2026( Ghufran): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday summoned the Punjab home secretary and the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Jail to appear in person on October 28 in a case challenging the continued detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s three sisters. Justice Abher Gul Khan heard a petition filed by Shahrez Khan, son of Aleema Khan, seeking the recovery and release of Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Dr Uzma Khan, who remain in custody under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance in connection with the PTI’s anti-government protest. During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel informed the court that the 30-day detention orders for the three women had expired on October 19 and 20, but they continued to be held at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore. Justice Abher Gul Khan questioned why the Lahore deputy commissioner had not been made a respondent in the petition. The counsel explained that the official had not been included because the detention notification issued by him had expired. Meanwhile, Ahed Khan, husband of Uzma Khan, requested that the court also summon the Lahore deputy commissioner. However, the judge observed that the official could not be summoned because he had not been made a party to the case. According to the petition, the three sisters remain detained despite the expiry of their 30-day detention period. Noreen Niazi and Dr Uzma Khan were detained on September 21 ahead of the PTI’s planned September 27 protest, which was later rescheduled for October 4, while Aleema Khan was taken into custody on September 20. Shahrez Khan filed a fresh petition in the high court a day before Thursday’s hearing, challenging the continued detention of the three women and seeking their release.
