LONDON, 13 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): England have rested Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue from their T20 International squad for the upcoming tour of Australia, while teenage wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew and Hampshire fast bowler Eddie Jack have earned their maiden England call-ups. Archer, Atkinson, Tongue and Sonny Baker will feature in the three-match ODI series before leaving the tour to prepare for December’s Test series in South Africa. Archer and Jacob Bethell, who is returning from a knee injury, have been included in the ODI squad as England intensify preparations for the next World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The T20I squad features four uncapped players, with 18-year-old Rew and Jack receiving their first international call-ups. James Coles and Henry Crocombe could also make their T20I debuts, while Luke Wood has returned to the squad despite recently losing his central contract. National selector Marcus North said England would be close to full strength in the ODI series as they build towards the World Cup. He added that the four fast bowlers would leave after the ODIs to manage their workloads ahead of the South Africa Tests. England will play a three-day warm-up match against a Cricket South Africa Invitational XI in Durban from December 9 to 11 before beginning the three-Test series in Johannesburg on December 17. The early arrival of the fast bowlers will allow them to acclimatise and work with new Test bowling coach Eric Simons. Rehan Ahmed has been omitted from both squads following a disappointing home summer, while fast bowler Saqib Mahmood will undergo knee surgery after another injury setback. Brydon Carse has also been left out as a Cricket Regulator investigation into his conduct during a night out in Derby continues.
England managing director Rob Key said Carse needed to “get his house in order” before a decision could be made about his return to international cricket. England will travel to Australia after an ODI tri-series in Pakistan involving the hosts and Sri Lanka. Their Australian campaign will begin with a 50-over warm-up against Western Australia XI in Perth on November 7. The ODI squad, captained by Harry Brook, includes Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root and Josh Tongue. The T20I squad comprises Harry Brook (captain), Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, James Coles, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Aneurin Donald, Eddie Jack, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Thomas Rew, Phil Salt and Luke Wood. England’s fixtures include a warm-up against Western Australia XI on November 7, followed by three ODIs on November 13 in Perth, November 15 in Adelaide and November 18 in Hobart. The five-match T20I series will begin in Melbourne on November 21, with subsequent matches scheduled for November 24 in Gold Coast, November 27 in Brisbane, November 29 in Sydney and December 2 in Canberra.
