   PM Shehbaz Reviews KP Security Situation with Mohsin Naqvi

Lahore, 4 October, 2026 (Ghufran): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held an important meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the latter’s residence to review the overall situation in the country, particularly the law and order and security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to sources, Naqvi briefed the prime minister on talks held with the KP government, saying the provincial government had agreed to sign a written agreement and submit an implementation plan within 72 hours, but backed out of the agreed points at the final stage of negotiations. He said the KP government had also agreed to reconsider the Police Act 2026 and keep police and security matters free from political interference. The agreed measures included preventing terrorists from operating freely or establishing safe havens in the province and unequivocally condemning the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA) and other terrorist groups. The meeting also discussed support for the national policy on the repatriation of Afghan refugees, dismantling Afghan refugee camps in the province and avoiding provincial-level contact with the interim Afghan government.

Naqvi said adequate funds for counterterrorism operations and the police were also part of the proposed agreement, while the provincial government had agreed to take full responsibility for counterterrorism measures and strengthen cooperation with the armed forces. He further briefed the prime minister that implementation of key counterterrorism decisions in former FATA and the merged districts had been agreed upon, along with effective implementation of the National Action Plan. Naqvi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was facing an extremely serious security situation and security matters could not be allowed to become a subject of politics. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that decisions aimed at improving law and order must be implemented strictly, saying no one could be allowed to undermine peace in the country or any province. He reiterated that the state’s position against terrorism was clear and there would be no compromise on peace and security. The meeting also reviewed future strategies for maintaining law and order and combating terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with different options and the way forward discussed to restore peace and ensure the writ of the state.
