Mumbai, 25 September, 2026 (Nosheen): Veteran Indian actor and comedian Mushtaq Khan, best known for his memorable role as Ballu, the fake-legged hockey player in the 2007 comedy film Welcome, has died at the age of 75. According to his son Mohsin, Khan had been battling cancer and died at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday. Khan made his film debut in the 1980 movie Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai? and went on to appear in more than 500 films during his career. His notable works included Hera Pheri, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Khan gained renewed popularity years after the release of Welcome for his portrayal of Ballu, the loyal aide of antagonist Uday Shetty. His deadpan delivery and memorable dialogue about having a fake leg made the character particularly popular with audiences and later turned the scene into an internet favourite. Tributes poured in following his death, including from his Gadar co-star Sunny Deol, who expressed condolences to Khan’s family.
