Islamabad, 24 September 2026 (Nosheen):The Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) organized an awareness session at Quaid-i-Azam University on the growing threat of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and the need for mandatory Front-of-Pack Warning Labels (FOPWLs).President PANAH Maj. Gen. (R) Masud-ur-Rehman Kiani said the rising burden of diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular and other NCDs has become a serious public-health concern in Pakistan. He stressed that excessive consumption of ultra-processed foods high in sugar, salt and unhealthy fats is contributing to the crisis.Gen Kiani said consumers have the right to know what they are eating and called for the immediate implementation of mandatory FOPWLs to help people make healthier choices.PANAH General Secretary Sana Ullah Ghumman said young people can play a vital role in preventing NCDs by spreading awareness through social media, university societies and community engagement.He urged students to support efforts for healthier diets and stronger public-health measures.PANAH called upon students, universities, health professionals, civil society and policymakers to join efforts to prevent NCDs and ensure effective implementation of mandatory FOPWLs in Pakistan.
