Manchester, 24 September, 2026 (Nosheen): Manchester United’s annual net loss increased by almost one-third to £43 million ($57 million) despite the club reporting record revenues for the financial year ending June 30. The club recorded revenues of £677.6 million, representing a 1.7 percent increase, but reported its seventh consecutive annual loss after tax. The financial results were affected by cost-cutting measures implemented by co-owner Jim Ratcliffe, contractual payments related to the departure of former manager Ruben Amorim and a significant increase in loan repayments. The latest figures cover the turbulent 2025/26 season, during which former United player Michael Carrick replaced Amorim and guided the team to qualification for the UEFA Champions League. The rise in revenue was largely driven by a nearly 20 percent increase in broadcasting income, boosted by Manchester United’s third-place finish in the Premier League compared with 15th the previous season. However, commercial and matchday revenues each declined by almost five percent during a season in which the club had no European fixtures. The club’s accounts showed £8.2 million in exceptional costs, most of which were linked to Amorim’s departure in January after 14 months in charge. Manchester United also paid £63.5 million to acquire land adjacent to Old Trafford, where the club plans to build a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000. Since acquiring a stake in the club in February 2024, Ratcliffe has introduced wide-ranging cost-cutting measures, including significant job reductions. United chief executive Omar Berrada said the latest figures demonstrated the club’s underlying strength and commercial appeal, while stressing that the club would continue to maintain financial discipline. Manchester United expects revenue of between £740 million and £760 million during the current financial year. On the field, however, Carrick’s team has made a poor start to the new season despite several summer signings. United have collected only five points from their opening five Premier League matches, matching the club’s worst-ever start to a league season, and were eliminated from the English League Cup last week.
