Rawalpindi, 03 September 2026 ( Nosheen): Religious scholars Ulema), health experts and representatives of the Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) have urged the Government of Pakistan to immediately implement mandatory Front-of-Pack Warning Labels (FOPWLs) on ultra-processed foods and beverages.
At a conference organized by PANAH in Islamabad, participants emphasized that clear and easy-to-understand warning labels can help consumers identify products high in sugar, salt and unhealthy fats, enabling them to make healthier choices and helping protect children and families from non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
President PANAH, Maj. Gen. (R) Masud Ur Rehman Kiani, highlighted international evidence showing the effectiveness of warning labels. PANAH General Secretary Sana Ullah Ghumman urged Ulema to support public awareness about healthy eating through their platforms and community engagement.
The participating Ulema and experts jointly called on the government to finalize and enforce FOPWL regulations without further delay, ensuring that warning labels are prominent, simple, clear and based on scientific evidence.
The participants reaffirmed that protecting public health is a shared responsibility and called for decisive action to make mandatory warning labels a reality in Pakistan.
