ISLAMABAD, 29 August, 2026 (Nosheen): Pakistani actress Hania Aamir has faced criticism on social media after sharing a dance video, with some users questioning the timing of the post amid recent tragedies in the country. Hania recently shared a video on Instagram in which she appeared wearing a Pakistan cricket team shirt, drinking coffee in an open-top vehicle and dancing to music. The video quickly attracted widespread attention, receiving reactions from both fans and critics. A section of social media users questioned the decision to share light-hearted content while families affected by recent tragic incidents were mourning. Some critics specifically referred to the reported fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, where 14 newborn babies were reported killed after a blaze broke out at the Mother and Child Hospital. Critics argued that Hania, one of Pakistan’s most-followed entertainment personalities, could use her substantial social media following to raise awareness about humanitarian and social issues. However, the criticism reflects the opinions of individual social media users and does not establish that the actress was under any obligation to comment on particular events. Public figures often face differing expectations regarding the issues they address and the content they share on social media. Some users also referred to the case of four-year-old Ayat Noor in Haripur and urged Hania to speak about the child. Reports surrounding the case have generated public concern over allegations of sexual assault and killing. The allegations, as well as any questions of criminal responsibility, remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. The controversy has once again highlighted the expectations placed on celebrities and other influential public figures to use their large digital platforms to draw attention to social and humanitarian issues. At the same time, social media users continue to debate whether celebrities should be expected to publicly respond to every major tragedy or social issue while maintaining their personal freedom over what they post online.
