MUMBAI, 23 August, 2026 (News Desk): Veteran Indian actress and mimicry artist Aasha Singh Jaiswal has passed away in Mumbai at the age of 83, leaving behind a notable legacy in Hindi cinema, television and the art of mimicry. Jaiswal died on August 22 at around 7:30 p.m., her son Akkash Bharadwaj confirmed. Her family performed her last rites and cremated her at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai on August 23. Paying tribute to his mother on Instagram, Bharadwaj recalled her deep commitment to her work and life. He said she believed that death should not be viewed only as a cause for grief but as a journey towards divine bliss. Jaiswal was known for her performances in Hindi films and television, but she also established herself as a prominent mimicry artist. She was particularly recognised for imitating the voices of well-known personalities, including legendary actress Meena Kumari. She was regarded as one of the pioneering women in Indian mimicry, making her contribution particularly significant in a field traditionally dominated by men. Jaiswal also appeared in Hindi cinema, including the 1993 Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Baazigar. She was also reportedly part of B.R. Chopra’s iconic television series Mahabharat, in which she played Kripi, the sister of Kripacharya. Beyond acting and mimicry, Jaiswal was also an entrepreneur. She founded Aasha Events and Films, an organisation involved in arranging cultural programmes and events. She also remained associated with social welfare and community initiatives throughout her career, earning recognition for her contributions to the entertainment industry and society. Her death marks the loss of a veteran performer who played an important role in bringing greater recognition to women in the traditionally male-dominated field of mimicry.
