
RABAT, 17 August, 2026 (Kamran Raja) — Cameroon have won their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title after defeating surprise finalists Malawi 3-0 in the final, with Marie Ngah scoring twice to lead the Indomitable Lionesses to victory. Cameroon had previously lost three finals but finally secured the continental title at their fourth attempt, overcoming a Malawi side that had reached the final for the first time in its history.The two finalists had already secured qualification for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil, along with semi-finalists Morocco and Algeria. Algeria finished third after defeating their opponents on penalties in the bronze-medal match on Saturday.Cameroon dominated the opening half and went into the interval with a commanding 3-0 lead. Ngah opened the scoring after 20 minutes when she reacted quickly to a loose ball inside the box and finished from close range. Naomi Eto doubled Cameroon’s advantage on the half-hour mark. Malawi struggled to contain Cameroon’s attacking pressure, and Ngah scored her second goal in the third minute of stoppage time following a pass from Eto.The victory made Cameroon the fourth different country to win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations since the tournament was first held in 1998. Nigeria remain the record holders with 10 titles, while Equatorial Guinea have won the competition twice and South Africa once.FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the medals to the victorious Cameroonian players alongside Confederation of African Football President Patrice Motsepe after the final.
