Strong Parliament, Supremacy of Constitution Imperative for Pakistan’s Progress: Senate Chairman

ISLAMABAD, 10 August 2026 (Ghufran): Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that a strong Parliament and supremacy of the Constitution are essential for Pakistan’s progress, stability and prosperity. He said that the first session of the Constituent Assembly held on August 10, 1947 marked the beginning of Pakistan’s parliamentary journey and reflected the democratic aspirations of the country’s founding fathers.He said democracy, constitutional supremacy and the rule of law are the foundations of national stability, while Parliament remains the true representative of the aspirations of the people and the most important forum for legislation. He added that the Senate strengthens national unity by providing equal representation to the federating units.

The Senate Chairman called upon political forces to promote parliamentary traditions of dialogue, tolerance and consensus, stressing that a strong Parliament is the foundation of a strong federation and a stable, prosperous Pakistan. He also emphasized the need to acquaint the younger generation with Pakistan’s democratic and constitutional journey.Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said modern technology can be utilized to make Parliament more effective, accessible and people-friendly, further strengthening its role as a responsive institution serving the public.
