
Swat, 2 August 2026 (Ghufran): At least five people were killed and 15 others injured in a suicide bombing near Kabal Police Station in Swat on Sunday, according to police and local administration officials. According to the police, the suicide bomber attempted to enter Kabal Police Station but was intercepted by officers on duty before reaching the premises. The attacker subsequently detonated the explosive device near the main gate of the police station, causing multiple casualties.
Malakand Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Fida Hussain stated that the timely action of police personnel prevented the attacker from entering the station, potentially averting a much larger tragedy. Assistant Commissioner Kabal confirmed that five people lost their lives in the blast, while 15 others sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, where several are reported to be in critical condition.
Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Omar said the explosion occurred near Kabal Chowk. During the initial investigation, authorities recovered a human head from the blast site, which is believed to belong to the suspected suicide bomber.Police officials also revealed that a protest by local youths was underway in the vicinity at the time of the attack, which may have contributed to the number of casualties.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive search operation. Bomb disposal experts and forensic teams collected evidence from the scene, while investigations are underway to determine the identity of the attacker and those responsible for planning the assault. Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
