The United Nations Security Council has expressed concern over the restrictions imposed on Afghan women and demanded to end the restrictions on them. In a statement issued by the UN Security Council, it has been said that the restrictions imposed on women by the Taliban government in Afghanistan are contrary to the expectations of the international community. The Security Council has said that these policies are an obstacle to respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the ban on women working for NGOs.
Security Council has demanded the Taliban government to give women equal and meaningful representation in Afghanistan. Girls’ schools should be opened. Restrictions and measures imposed on women should be withdrawn. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that restrictions on women and girls are unjustified and must end. It should be noted that the Taliban in Afghanistan has banned women from working for NGOs, while the doors of universities and schools for girls were also closed.
