UNESCO Marks International Women’s Day, Highlights ICAIRE’s Efforts to Empower Women in Artificial Intelligence

Riyadh, March 8, 2026(Kamran Raja): UNESCO marked International Women’s Day today, observed annually on March 8, highlighting the role of the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE) in promoting women’s participation in advanced technologies.

Operating under the auspices of UNESCO in Riyadh, ICAIRE is committed to building an inclusive global artificial intelligence ecosystem and empowering women to play a greater role in emerging technologies. The observance reflects ongoing efforts to ensure women’s equal access to education and to promote their advancement across various development sectors.

Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO, emphasized the importance of women assuming greater responsibilities in the public sector, gaining access to economic resources, and actively participating in cultural and scientific life to support global sustainable development.

In line with this vision, ICAIRE has launched several initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s participation in the field of artificial intelligence. Among them is the “Elevate” program, which has attracted more than 30,000 participants from over 100 countries. The initiative provides advanced training to develop women’s skills in artificial intelligence while building a global network of female technology leaders and strengthening women’s role in innovation and responsible AI development.
