Saudi Medical Team Successfully Separates Somali Conjoined Twins in 12-Hour Surgery in Riyadh

Riyadh, March 6, 2026(Kamran Raja): The Saudi medical team of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme successfully separated Somali conjoined twins, Rahma and Ramla, on Thursday following a complex 12-hour surgical procedure in Riyadh.

The surgery was conducted at King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital, located within King Abdulaziz Medical City, and was carried out in eight carefully planned stages. A total of 36 consultants, specialists, and technical staff participated in the operation, representing multiple medical disciplines including anesthesia, pediatric surgery, urology, orthopedic surgery, and plastic surgery. The effort was further supported by a dedicated team of nursing and technical personnel.

Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and head of the program’s surgical and multidisciplinary team, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, stated that the successful separation of Rahma and Ramla marks the 68th operation completed by the Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme.

He noted that over the past 35 years, the program has provided medical care for 156 conjoined twins from 28 countries, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s leading role in global humanitarian and medical initiatives.

Dr. Al Rabeeah emphasized that these achievements reflect the Kingdom’s strong commitment to humanitarian values and its continued efforts to provide specialized medical care to people in need around the world.

He also expressed his deep appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their continuous support of the program.

Dr. Al Rabeeah added that these ongoing medical milestones demonstrate the Kingdom’s humanitarian leadership and advanced medical capabilities at both regional and international levels. He further commended the dedication and professionalism of the medical and surgical teams whose efforts contributed to the successful operation.

Congratulating the twins’ family on the successful outcome, Dr. Al Rabeeah prayed for Rahma and Ramla’s continued health and well-being.

The twins’ parents expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for the specialized medical care provided to their children. They also praised the Kingdom’s hospitality and humanitarian support during their stay in Saudi Arabia, and wished the country continued stability and prosperity.
