Islamabad 20 May 2025( Kamran Raja):The 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the OIC-15 Dialogue Platform concluded in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, with a strong commitment to advancing collective efforts in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). “Trustworthy and Ethical Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development”.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, led the 4-members COMSTECH delegation. High Level Delegations from the Brunei Darussalam, Republic of Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Malysia, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Republic of Tunisia, Republic of Türkiye, and State of Qatar attended the meeting. Mr. Shakil Arshad, Director, represented Pakistan ‘s Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.
Ministers and high-level representatives from the member states of the OIC-15 Dialogue Platform unanimously adopted the Tehran Declaration and reaffirmed their commitments towards the shared mission of the OIC member states in the field of AI. This forward-looking document emphasizes cooperation in AI education, research, infrastructure development, governance, and technology transfer and exchange of knowledge among the OIC Member States.
The Declaration underscores the importance of advancing AI education and workforce development, collaborative research and innovation, exchange of best practices, sharing of resources, safe and ethical use of AI, encouraging public-private partnership for AI development, and enhancing global AI competitiveness of OIC member states.
The delegates also emphasized the need for collaborative research and innovation in addressing shared challenges, such as healthcare, climate change, food security, and water related issues.
The Declaration calls for the development of AI-ready ecosystems and the promotion of talent mobility through capacity building programs, including fellowships, internships, and training programs aligned with global benchmarks. The meeting encouraged entrepreneurship and investment in AI startups by facilitating structured dialogues and innovation-focused forums.
In his address, Prof. Choudhary highlighted the transformative role of AI in shaping the future of science, economic development, and education within the Muslim world. He reaffirmed COMSTECH’s full support for institutional collaborations and joint initiatives under the OIC-15 framework.
The Tehran Declaration marks a significant milestone in aligning the strategic vision of OIC-15 countries to harness the potential of AI for inclusive development, regional innovation, and shared prosperity.
