Italy marks National Unity and Armed Forces Day on 4th November

Islamabad 04 Nov 2024: Authorities, Guests and friends, good evening and welcome First of all let me thank my Amb, Marilina, to be here in this special event so important for, our Armed Forces and the entire country. Let me thank also, Lt. General Guirez, our main guest: we have very good relations with the Pakistan Forces, Today Your presence here is an important sign of friendship. The Armed Forces are at the service of the Republic. This is the formula used by law to express, in the highest and most profound form, the indissoluble bond that exists between the Armed Forces and Italy, its institutions, and its people. They serve the community and, at the same time, are its direct expression, embodying its values. So, why do we commemorate the 4th of November? | apologize for those who were present last year and the year before, but the story obviously does not change, We commemorate November 4th to honor the end of World War I and the sacrifice of those who fought for Italy. On this date, in 1918, the conflict ended with the Armistice of Villa Giusti, which led to Italy's victory. It is a day to remember the fallen and celebrate the value of the Armed Forces, recognizing their commitment to the defense of the homeland and the values of freedom and justice. The celebration is also a moment of reflection on the meaning of peace and national unity. In particular, the 4th November 1921, a special convoy transported from Aquileia to Rome the body of the unnamed soldier, a body chosen from among those of eleven unidentified Italian fallen soldiers, by a mother Maria Bergamas, representing all the Italian mothers who had lost a son during the war and to whom the remains had not been returned. That train stopped in over a hundred cities and received the tribute of the entire country. That body was buried in the sacellum placed on the Altare della Patria, Altar of the Fatherland, the monument in the picture behind me. To commemorate all the fallen of all wars, this year as well, thanks to the support of the Pakistan Army, we listen to a bugler who will play for us what the Italian Armed Forces call the music of silence. Especially at this time, where it seems that human beings do not treasure past experiences, let us remember the fallen together.
