The important meeting of the Election Commission was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Sikandar Sultan Raja in which the four honorable members participated
In the meeting, the request and notifications of the provincial government of Sindh were considered. The provincial government has requested to postpone the local body elections of Karachi division, Hyderabad and two tehsils of Khairpur Nathan and Meher of Dadu district, which are scheduled to be held on January 15, 2023.
In this regard, the Election Commission has rejected the request of the provincial government to postpone the local body elections, keeping in view the legal and constitutional requirements. And has ordered that the elections in Karachi Division, Hyderabad and other districts will be held on January 15 as per the schedule.
In this regard, the Election Commission is issuing an order.
Further, the Election Commission has also decided to ask the Home Ministry to ensure the deployment of Army/Rangers at the most sensitive polling stations during the elections.
