Mumbai, 30 September, 2026 (Nosheen): Bollywood filmmaker and television host Karan Johar has announced that his popular celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan will come to an end after its upcoming ninth season, concluding a 22-year run. The show, which premiered in 2004, has completed 161 episodes across eight seasons and has featured some of India’s biggest Bollywood and sports personalities. The ninth and final season is scheduled to begin streaming on JioHotstar from October 14. Over the years, the programme became known for candid conversations about friendships, relationships, marriages and the personal lives of celebrities, with several episodes generating viral moments and controversies. Karan Johar said the show had become an important part of his identity in the entertainment industry but he now wants to focus on directing films and telling new stories. The programme began with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as its first guests and later featured stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Kareena Kapoor and many others. The show also faced controversy, including an episode in 2019 that was removed from the Hotstar platform after cricketer Hardik Pandya made derogatory remarks about women. Johar said the upcoming season would be his final appearance on the iconic talk-show couch, describing the decision as emotional and personal while expressing hope that the show’s legacy would continue to be remembered by audiences.
