AMSTERDAM, 22 August, 2026 (Nosheen): Mercedes driver George Russell powered to victory in the Dutch Grand Prix sprint race on Saturday, making the most of his pole position to close the gap on teammate Kimi Antonelli in the drivers’ championship. Russell made a clean getaway at the start and remained in control throughout the 24-lap sprint, finishing 1.36 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. The main battle of the race was between Leclerc and reigning world champion Lando Norris. Leclerc produced an impressive overtake on the straight on the 18th lap to move ahead of the McLaren driver and secure second place. Norris, who reported problems with the rear of his McLaren during the race, finished third. He narrowly held off Mercedes teenager Kimi Antonelli, who crossed the finish line in fourth.Russell’s dominant sprint victory provided a valuable boost to his championship campaign and strengthened Mercedes’ position heading into the remainder of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend.
