Finance Minister along with a delegation will go to Washington to meet the IMF

A high-powered delegation of Pakistan led by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to attend the upcoming annual spring meeting of the Bretton Wood Institutions (BWIs) popularly known as the IMF and the World Bank from April 10 to 16, 2023 in Washington, D.C. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Secretary Finance, Secretary Economic Affairs Division and Governor State Bank of Pakistan along with official delegations to avoid default risks on the economic horizon for the recovery of ongoing programs before the IMF and World Bank. It is expected that the Pakistani delegation will request the top officials of the IMF to revive the stalled fund program in the upcoming talks.

The two sides will also discuss the possibility of consolidating the remaining 10th and 11th reviews under the $6.5 billion Expanded Fund Facility (EFF) program in case of successful completion of the pending 9th review. The IMF program under the EFF expires on June 30, 2023 and the program cannot be extended beyond the scheduled deadline under the established guidelines. It remains to be seen how Pakistan and the IMF will proceed to complete the EFF program while the 10th review has already been delayed. The pending 9th review was to be completed in December and the 10th review was supposed to start from February 2023.
