ELECTIONS OF KARACHI & SINDH WEIGHTLIFTING ASSOCIATIONS HELD AFTER 12 YEARS, ON SATURDAY, 4TH MARCH 2023, AT GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE FOR BOYS QUAIDABAD KARACHI
Major (Retd) Raza Ali and Mr. Abdul Wahhab Sheikh, former national weightlifter and senior official, were designated as the designated Patron-in-Chief and Patron of the Sindh Weightlifting Associationrespectively.
Whereas Professor Ameer Ali Lashari, Principal GovtBoys Degree College Quaidabad, Karachi was designated as Patron of Karachi Weightlifting Association.
The elections were attended by Shuja–ud-Din Malik, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, and Waheed Ahmad Dar (whorepresented Interim Committee) and Mr Imran Yousaf(who represented PSB Coaching Centre Karachi on behalf of PSB). Independent observers and large number of sportspersons were also present on the occasion to witness the process of free and fair elections.
The elections were conducted by an Election Commission headed by Mr. Rana Khalid Hussain,Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan; while Maj (Retd) Muhammad Sajjad Baig and Nadeem Asghar assisted the Commission as members.
Lala Asadullah Khan, former national weightlifter and international official/referee, and Muhammad Amir were elected President and Secretary of Sindh Weightlifting Association for the term of four years. Earlier Major (Retd) Raza Ali and Javaid Bashir (former national Champion and South Asian Games medalist) were elected as President and Secretary of Karachi Weightlifting Association.
The elected office bearers expressed their confidence and trust in the Election Commission, observers and the Interim Committee for the measures taken by it to conduct the representative and free elections.
Brigadier Zahid Iqbal (Retd) Chairman Interim Committee of Pakistan Weightlifting Federation also congratulated the elected office bearers of both the Associations and advised them to work for development of weightlifting in Sindh. He also encouraged them to play their role for clean sports and sports for all, as a human right.
